Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Food Lion, Harris Teeter, Star Bucks Coffee are located in Kitty Hawk as well as Sea Scape golf course. It is still a very family oriented community were people look out for each other. If you have children you will be very happy with the school system were class rooms are small and individual attention is the norm. Many people who visit here on vacation have not idea about the year round life style or the type of homes that are available. Most of the year round residents live on the west side or sound side of the island. Many areas need no flood insurance with some properties being 30 feet above sea level! Many of the home are not on stilts like many of the vacation homes. Lot sizes average 15,000 square feet and up.
